2024 Chinese New Year Celebration Moves to the Ent Center for the Arts at UCCS The Colorado Springs Chinese Cultural Institute will ring in their 25th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration, the Year of the Dragon, at an exciting new location, the Ent Center for the Arts at UCCS. They also welcome a new partnership with the UCCS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Outreach and Education and the UCCS Asian Studies. The event will take on a new format with ticketgoers choosing between two cultural performances at 11am–12pm or 1-2pm on Saturday, February 17, 2024. The refreshed 2024 New Year Celebration will continue to be a mainstay cultural event in Colorado Springs offering performances of the traditional lion dance, Taiko Drumers, Asian dances, unique Chinese musical performances, martial arts exhibitions and Asian Aerial Acrobats. They will continue to offer the Chinatown Marketplace of lucky new year jewelry, dragons, shirts, etc. The official Chinese New Year celebration is based on the lunar calendar. The origin of the New Year celebration occurred before the advent of the written language; hence it is an oral tradition with many myths. Through the years it has sustained as one of the few major celebrations throughout Asia. The Year of the Dragon covers those born in 1940, 1952, 1964 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, and 2024. The dragon represents power, nobility, honor, luck and success. Tickets will be available in January at EntCenterfortheArts.org and cscci.org. Admission for the CSCCI New Year Festival is $15 for adults, $10 for Military, students, senior (age 65+), children (2+) and CSCCI members. Children under 2 are free.
